The young players most likely enjoy the game of soccer when they are continuously scoring goals. During the practice sessions, have the players perform such youth soccer drills that have the maximum scope for players to score goals.
Use small sided games, full field scrimmages, and shooting drills to create opportunities for them. It’s better to keep diverging the process in kids soccer drills, when performing small sided games and full field scrimmages.
You also have the choice to add games that can be played without a goalkeeper or where a goalie’s movement can be restricted within given boundaries. With a view to boost the chances of increasing the number of goals scored, add more goals or expand the ones that are already in use.
The chances of improved goal scoring can be experienced when the young players become experts in shooting techniques and its strategic knowledge. As is with passing skills, shooting techniques should also be taught to players at the beginner’s stage. These can be then emphasized more strongly at the later stages of a player’s development.
When it comes to youth soccer practice, the most useful method to develop player’s shooting skills is including drills in practice. In order to effectively score goals, shooting drills help in developing shooting skills of the players. Nonetheless, its better that a player’s shooting skills grow with time.
Several youth soccer drills can be planned in away that they develop the player’s shooting skills in the sequence given below;
1. Stationery ball shot by a stationery player.
2. Stationery ball shot by a moving player.
3. A stationary player shooting a moving ball.
4. A moving player being shot by a moving player.
It should be an imperative part of youth soccer coaching to help the players hit the ball effectively while shooting. A lot of players have the tendency to take shots from the close range using the inside of their feet. This helps the players improve their shooting capabilities.
In circumstances where it is important to shoot with power, make the players use the instep of their foot to strike the ball. Their toes should point downwards and the ankles must be locked.
The elevation of the shoot is affected by the placement of the non-kicking foot. Ask the players to put their non-kicking foot a little ahead of the ball. This will keep the shot low. Try to keep the players focused on striking the ball. You can remove everything that distracts the players such as moving players and balls.
As the players improve their shooting technique, raise the difficulty level in the practice games. For instance, as their shooting improves, throw balls at various speeds.
